Nice environment and facilities, but I really miss the time when libraries were quiet places. Now it seems its fine for children to run around screaming.

Great facilities but the Cafe is expensive.

I thought this new library would be a great new place to study however I seem to be mistaken. Am I wrong in thinking that libraries are meant to be quiet places? The acoustics are terrible. The up stairs study area receives all the noise from the down stairs, which is a lot. This is not just from one experience I have been here five times now and it seems that the "quiet" concept of a library has not been brought over to this new library. If you want a quiet place to study or read this is not the place.

Love the new library! It's such a pleasure after the old building. Very light, roomy and spacious with lots of places to sit and read, as well as laptop stations. There is a lift for those who can't access via the stairs. The same staff are very helpful and the kids section is great.

The old library was great. Yes, it was shabby and a bit cramped, and noisy when the kids were having their story-time. But you could disappear among the stacks and hear yourself think and the staff were the best I've encountered, anywhere in the world. And it was somewhere safe for the school students to go after school. The new library is awful. It's awful. How long before a child or visually-impaired person plummets to their doom down those steps? Taking bets now. The acoustics are terrible. There's a massive choke-point round the issue machines (one of which wasn't working properly when I visited) and that's with just individuals using it. What's it going to be like when someone has a couple of kids in tow? Or someone using a wheelchair? Or don't they matter? Access is poor you get the choice of parking on the Princes Highway, with all that that entails, or labouring up through the bowels of the building. The ratepayers deserve better, the library clientele deserve better, the staff deserve better. It's awful. My god.
